WLADIMIR KAMINER

Wladimir Kaminer was born in Moscow in 1967. After his training as an audio engineer for theatre and broadcasting he studied dramaturgy at the Muscovite Institute of Theater. Since 1990 Vladimir Kaminer lives in Germany, where he initiated the meanwhile legendary dancing event “Russian discotheque” in Berlin. With his books “Military Music” and “Schönhauser Avenue” published by Manhattan Goldmann in 2001, Kaminer started his career as an author and soon – with his laconic and sharp pointed way of storytelling – became one of the most popular young authors of Germany. Meanwhile his books have been translated into 8 languages.

2002 Kaminers “Journey to Trulala” was nominated for the German book price, followed by many other books, like “My German Jungle Book” (2003) or “Karaoke” (2005) as well as this year published “Küche Totalitär”, a “Socialistic Cookbook ”, on which Wladimir Kaminer worked together with his wife Olga. Beside his morning magazine features for the German TV ZDF, Kaminer likewise hosts the program “Wladimir’s world” on RBB Radio Multi Kulti, where he and his colleague Yuriy Gurzhy present “Post-Soviet Record Entertainment”.

His first theatre play Marina. See you again at Russian discotheque was performed in January 2003 at Junges Theater in Goettingen. Wladimir Kaminer is not only an extraordinary writer, but also has a strong pulsating vein for acting as one can see obviously in his performed readings. His charismatic voice is now to be heard in the German-Russian documentary film Wodka Nationalprodukt Nr.1.
